Trying to Lose Weight? Do Not Make Any of These 3 Common Mistakes

Have you just started a new workout routine? If so, congratulations! You’ve taken the first step toward a healthier lifestyle. However, it can be easy to fall short of your goals soon into your new routine, if you fail to follow a few rules. If you’ve started working out more but haven’t noticed any results, or you feel that your results have plateaued, you may be making one of these common beginners’ blunders.

Repeating Workouts

While you should be working to establish a fitness routine, you shouldn’t repeat the same workout day in and day out. Why? Your body adjusts to the daily workload and you hit the dreaded weight loss plateau. To fix this problem, develop a workout schedule that involves different activities, different intensity levels, and different session lengths. You might enjoy yoga two days per week and commit to walking and/or strength training the other days. Have fun with it, and you’ll be able to hit your target without getting bored.

Eating More

A grueling session at the gym will make you hungry, no doubt. But, you shouldn’t give in to the idea that you can eat anything you want because you went to the gym. If you are trying to lose weight with exercise, you need to achieve a specific calorie deficit at the end of the day. Indulge too much, and you’ll end up back at square one, replacing all the calories you burned. Watch what you eat, and track calories if able. That will ensure that you maintain a calorie deficit at the end of the day.

Decreasing Overall Activity

Sure, going to the gym counts as being physically active for the day. However, if you’re working out and then allowing yourself to hang out on the couch all night long, you will have a hard time seeing results. If you are too tired after your workouts, you may need to re-evaluate your routine. Work in a few recovery days and see how you feel. You may also need to break the habit of your formerly sedentary lifestyle. Go for short walks when you can and watch how much time you devote to sedentary activities, like watching TV.
