Will Della Make the Cake After All? Find Out During the Heartwarming Play, The Cake

Founded in 2001, Uptown Players presents professional theatre that meets a rising demand in the community for audiences to see their life experiences represented on stage. To close its 18th season, Uptown Players will present the regional premiere of Bekka Brunstetter’s new comedy, The Cake. Check it out on Friday, August 9th!

Della’s North Carolina bakery is legendary! She is overjoyed when her best friend’s daughter returns from New York to get married and asks Della to make her wedding cake. But Della is forced to re-examine her deeply-held beliefs and her own marriage when she realizes there is not one bride, but two.

Faith, family, and frosting collide in this delicious new comedy from Bekka Brunstetter, the writer of the NBC hit series, This is Us. The play was inspired by real-life events that eventually led to the Masterpiece Cakeshop v. Colorado Civil Rights Commission Supreme Court case.

Uptown Players offers diverse productions focusing on contemporary and alternative lifestyle themes that explore topics including diversity and values. We present plays and musicals that challenge audiences artistically, strengthen cultural bridges, and create positive public awareness and acceptance.
