Shawn Mendes is a Canadian singer and songwriter known for hits like "Stitches" and "There's Nothing Holdin' Me Back." Although he has been dubbed “the next Justin Bieber” for their shared good looks, vocal ability, and Canadian heritage, Shawn’s acoustic-driven and catchy songs are more aligned with his idol Ed Sheeran’s musical style and, unlike Bieber, Mendes quickly transitioned to writing his own songs.

After producing acoustic covers, she signed with EP Entertainment and Def Jam Recordings in 2014 and released her debut single the following year. "Here" reached number 19 on the Canadian Hot 100 chart and was a sleeper hit in the United States, peaking at number 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
